Saeed Mirza is known for his work which always have a social commentary. The movie is well made with relatable characters. (relatable at least to people who live there or are familiar with the time and place of the movie).
Salim is a Muslim guy, uneducated due to circumstances and resourceful and rough as per his needs. He is unsatisfied with his position in society and wants to move up by any means initially. He is angry and dissatisfied with the way he and those around him are treated and wants to feel respected. The director brilliantly captures this with strong performance from Pavan Malhotra and rest of the cast.
It's been 30 years since this story about Muslim ghettos was made and the issues highlighted still exist. People are still divided on their identity. Still unsure about authorities. Still struggling. Still trying to gain respect.

Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro review

Anumati review

I had added this to the watch list after seeing Vikram Gokhale's performance in Natsamrat. I have been familiar with his Bollywood work, but his performance in this was another level. The anguish, despair, helplessness and hope of the character were elevated by the sheer quality of performance and good direction. The National award was well deserved.

The Decoy Bride review

One of the best scenes in an ordinary movie. David Tennant playing the bagpipes for the old deaf couple.
